The Last Days of Summer: Plan Ahead to Steer Clear of Repair Issues

Labor Day weekend is almost here, and whether you are planning on celebrating at the beach, the baseball park, or taking an extended road trip – it is wise advice to make sure your car, truck or SUV is in good working order and well maintained.

Did you know that Labor Day weekend is one of the busiest weekends of the year on the road? Most car issues happen from motorists being stuck in unforgiving traffic as people are trying to get their last trip for the summer in before they head back to reality. Some of the most common calls for roadside assistance were for a tow, battery jumps, and changing a tire. Either way, you don’t want to spend your last summer weekend sitting at a repair shop paying for an overdue car repair.

Safety and Auto Repair Tips for a Tow-free Labor Day Weekend

  • Be prepared for traffic and all the troubles it brings – Summers in San Diego typically mean tourists, crowded beaches, sold-out events, and having to wait. Circling the parking lot and idling on the I-5 can take its toll on your vehicle, particularly if it is in need of cooling system service. So make sure your radiator is filled to the line and don’t take any chances with cooling system repair.
  • Tempers rise as temperatures do so get your auto AC repair done now. Road rage is a reality in San Diego, particularly when you add hot temperatures, traffic congestion, lost tourists and alcohol. Unfortunately, Labor Day weekend tends to be high on the list for DUI related incidents for the county but not nearly as bad as the July 4th weekend, which is peak season for DUI arrests. Cool bodies lead to cool heads and more patient drivers and passengers all around. It is much more relaxing to deal with traffic headaches sitting in a chilled, air conditioned car. So get regular AC repair and tune-ups before the big weekend and at least you can stay calm despite the traffic delays.
  • Have a plan B. Here in San Diego, there are several festivities going on around the year including Labor Day. So if you can’t make it to one event due to over crowdedness, a traffic accident, cancelation or something else entirely, map out alternatives in advance. This way, you can avoid the stress and anxiety of having to figure out where to go at the last minute. By giving yourself options and time, you and your car are more likely to arrive in one piece.
